SHOCK! GRAVITY, A HOAX?

BREAKING NEWS - URGENT

New letters recently uncovered and purportedly written by famed English scientist Sir Isaac Newton’s gardener have thrown the conservative blogosphere into turmoil with the apparent admission that his groundbreaking work on gravity was a fraud.

Conservative critics are blasting the scientific community for accepting without question the 320 year old concept of Universal Gravitation first articulated by Newton in 1687.

Nationally syndicated Radio talk show host, and de-facto leader of the Republican party Rush Limbaugh was particularly apoplectic upon hearing the news and angrily accused liberals of hatching a plan to bilk the public out of millions of dollars with “voodoo weight-loss schemes,” He lashed out at Jenny Craig for helping to propagate the ‘myth’ of obesity. Limbaugh lambasted Newton, saying “Are we supposed to trust a man that had just been hit in the head by a flying object? I don’t think so.”

The letter, which was recently authenticated by document specialist, Orly Taitz appears contradict the popular story of Newton’s epiphany under an apple tree. In the letter, Newton’s personal gardener, and head groundskeeper at Cambridge University in England, claims to have thrown the apple at Newton to protest Newton’s failure to publicly reject science and embrace the Lord. The letter details how the Spirit of the Lord sent the apple down from the tree specifically for the man pick up and hurl at the famed scientist in order to kill him.

Limbaugh reasoned that since there was no gravity, there could therefore be no such a thing as weight making it impossible for someone to be overweight. “We are what we are.” He said. “That’s the way God made us, and to try to change God’s vision of mankind is heresy, an assault on religion and part of an ongoing socialist, atheist plot to kill Jesus.”

Calling gravity a farce, prominent republican thinker and Facebook aficionado, Sarah Palin declared that after her own exhaustive Biblical research, she had concluded that Newton’s influential theories were ‘jibber-jabber’ intended to line the pockets of the ‘liberal elite.’ She noted that there was simply no credible evidence to support the claim. She continued to point that it was a ‘proven fact’ that gravity did not, in fact even exist, and that only through the power of Jesus are real Americans being kept from flying off into space. Palin explained that on clear nights she could see thousands of stars in the heavens from her home in Wasilla, and if there was some sort of ‘magic gravitationality’ [sic] those stars would have fallen into the earth long ago. Dismissing the entire notion of Gravity, Palin lumped the concept in with other “phony hooey-dooey scams” like Dinosaurs, Swine Flu, and Islam.

Glenn Beck, dedicated an entire week’s worth of coverage to Gravity-gate, which he explained was definitive proof of the further erosion of the Christian values in America. “Now Obama and his Czars are trying to tell us that Jesus never ascended to Heaven because it is physically impossible? Who are they fooling, folks??”

Beck went on to connect the Weight Watchers organization to an elaborate conspiracy to deny the existence of Christ. He also said that Weight Watchers was a socialist arm of the Obama administration beset with corruption and dubbed it “ACORN for fatties.”

“Now the libs trying to tell us that gravity is a law. I don’t see it in the constitution, but Barry Hussein and his cronies want us to be forced to follow their so-called law of gravity!! These monsters,” he said, wiping away tears, “Are trying to keep honest Americans down…literally!” Beck then produced a chart which he said de-coded a secret message hidden in the word “GRAVETY” [sic] that proved “beyond a shadow of a doubt” that the almost universally excepted principle of physics is a myth. The chart is shown below.

G = Greedy

R = Racist

A = Athiest

V = Vultures

E = Enthusiastically

T = Taking

Y = Your freedom

Beck echoed the emerging conservative meme that only God is to be credited for keeping life from being flung off of the planet. Beck also exhorted parents of school children to shred any school textbook that even mentions the word gravity, and he urged his viewers to instead buy gold from one of his shows remaining advertisers as a show of their liberty and devotion to God.  Beck did save some kind words for the "former heredical Jew" Newton, whom Beck announced, had converted to Mormanism in 2003.

HOW TO TURN "OPINIONS" INTO "NEWS"

Last weekend Rush Limbaugh stopped by the "Fox News Sunday" show hosted by Chris Wallace. FNS is a Fox News Channel “Opinion” show (their words, not mine) as defined by Fox senior vice president for news, Michael Clemente’s announcement of the distinction between “news” and “opinion” programming on the Fox News Channel.

In case you are interested, Clemente said actual objective “news” reporting was limited to the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays only. That’s about 27% of FNC’s total programming schedule – not much news for a channel with the word “news” in its title, one would think. I’m not sure MSNBC does very much better, but, then again, they don’t put ‘news’ in their title either.

Anyway, Rush was the main guest on the show and sat for a ‘wide ranging’ interview. Topics ranged widely from criticism of Obama as president all the way to criticism of Obama as a person. For 30 minutes Limbaugh excitedly expressed his negative “opinions” of the President, encouraged by the similarly minded Chris Wallace, including his “opinion” that President Obama used his Dover Air Force Base visit purely for political gain and that Obama didn’t actually care for our brave men and women of the Armed Forces. Nothing really wrong there – the show is admittedly “opinion” programming and not objective “news” reporting. But what happened later was more than a little deceptive.

First, the blogosphere (both conservative and liberal) took notice of the interview and began to reprint the “opinions” expressed by Limbaugh. Soon other outlets picked up the story as well, including TPM, Drudge, HuffPo and Politico. There is nothing wrong with this either. Many of the sites I mentioned operate primarily as news aggregation websites, re-titling items generated elsewhere to suit their readers, and they make no claims of being “Fair and Balanced” like Fox does. Suddenly, though, it seemed that Limbaugh’s “opinion” was becoming “news.”

About 3 hours after the interview, a “news” item appeared on the Fox News website among the top stories of the day referencing Limbaugh’s interview. The item was not “below the fold” – as Clemente likes to refer to Fox’s “opinion” programming, alongside their other “opinion” pieces, but right at the top alongside Fox’s “objective news”.

Before long this “news” item became THE top story of the day on Foxnews.com, replete with a photo of an incredulous looking Rush set within a photo of Obama saluting a returning dead soldier’s flag-draped coffin, with the blaring headline “Limbaugh Blasts Obama ‘PHOTO OP?’”

Limbaugh’s (and Fox’s) “opinions” of President Obama were thus re-branded and presented as “news.” But is it really “news” that Limbaugh thinks Obama is a ‘Narcissist’ or that he thinks Obama is out to ‘destroy the private sector’? By the way; what was the reason for the question mark if not to forward the “opinion” that the photo-op was disingenuous.

And so, there it is. Fox’s journalistic version of money laundering. Repackage “opinions” as genuine “news” and pass them off to the unsuspecting public.

Fox and conservatives argue that Rush’s statements in and of themselves are newsworthy and would therefore qualify as bonafide “news,” but the point of the item wasn’t to report on Rush’s comments, it was clearly to legitimize those “opinions.”

Clemente and the rest of the Fox brass can try all they want to compartmentalize their “opinion” programming, but when they blatantly present “opinions” as “objective” journalism they aren’t fooling anyone.

UPDATE: For a appropriate example of this type of behavior in action, check out today’s Foxnews page, and it’s coverage of Bow-gate 2. Brought up by fringe Neo-cons on Sunday, suddenly it is “news” that the President respected Japanese culture by bowing to the Emperor. See: Bad Form, or 'When in Rome...'?

REAL Lessons from the Summer of Hate.

Its not the fact the Joe Wilson has the self-control of a 5 year old. It’s not the fact that he has no couth – Congress has a long proud history of hosting the crude and morally challenged of all political persuasions. Its not even the fact that political rhetoric in this nation is at it’s lowest point since Joe McCarthy. It is singularly the fact that the Republican Party has totally abandoned the one ‘value’ that they had previously championed above others; Patriotism.

In the past, Republicans took great pains to highlight to the public that THEY were the party of Christian family values and; that THEY would never behave like the Godless liberals; that THEY respected the institution of government above all, no matter who was in charge. They wrapped themselves in the flag, demanded a strict adherence to a manufactured code of reverence for the symbols of the nation, and relentlessly denigrated those who didn’t match their nationalistic fervor.

Replace the Bush caricatures and anti-government slogans of 2004’s peace demonstrations with the Obama caricatures and anti-government slogans of this summer’s tea-bag protests, and the rallies appear quite similar on the surface. THE DIFFERENCE is that back when it was the Democrats doing the protesting, the GOP lost its collective marbles.

For the past 8 years, they wagged their fingers at anyone who deigned to criticize George W Bush, because, naturally, those who spoke ill of the President of the United States during a time of war were ‘emboldening the enemy’ and would therefore be responsible of the deaths of US servicemen and women in uniform. They said protesting the war was tantamount to aiding and abetting the enemy. They charged that the protestors were WORSE than Bin Laden himself. They were aghast at photos likening Bush to Hitler. How horrible. It was an insult to the President and to the brave Americans who died fighting the Nazis. He was the elected leader of the United States, the greatest nation in the world and therefore he deserved respect.

During Reagan’s and both Bush (41 and 43) administrations, the political doctrine crafted by Reganites Cheney, Rove and Ashcroft dominated the landscape. Their Neo-Conservative movement synergized a fanatically puritanical ethic by blending elements of patriotic national duty with obedient service to the Lord.

September 11, 2001 assisted in the sanctification of the names and symbols of their image of the United States – Reagan’s Christian “Shining City on the Hill.” Flag worship reached epic levels. Bully patriotism ruled. You were either ‘with us’ or ‘against us.’

Republicans proudly sported red, white, and blue ribbons emblazoned with the motto. “I Support the President of the United States,” implying that anti-war liberals hated America and actually wanted our soldiers to die. Lapel flag-pins became a measure of patriotic commitment. God Bless America was no longer just a patriotic song; it was an ode to the divine consecration of this nation’s most-favored status in Heaven. It was a prayer to the God of America – Their God and their America. Anyone who didn’t fall into line was a traitor, plain and simple.

Predictably, this January, a few days after George Bush quit D.C. for good Republicans reacted in horror as a few in the crowd gathered for the Obama inaugural derisive cheered the outgoing President. They argued that that Republicans would never act as ‘low-class’ as that. Never. Not a Republican. Respect the rank, not the man, they demanded.

John McCain vowed that the GOP would be a ‘loyal’ minority, not-so-subtly suggesting that Democratic opponents to George Bush were somehow disloyal in their dissent. Republicans may not agree with Obama, McCain argued, but they were Americans first, and they would always support the President of the United States no matter what.

These were to be their final acts of ‘traditional’ patriotism.

Reality set in as the Right Wing found itself completely shut out of power for the first time in almost 15 years. Suddenly the notion of blind obedience to the President didn’t look so fun. Their rules of patriotism and values no longer seemed to apply.

So, they changed the rules, and a new patriotism was born – a Neo-Patriotism. No longer was dissent treason. Suddenly, it became the pinnacle of patriotism, and if one did NOT dissent, well then they were now the traitors to this democracy. The reversal was stunning, and supremely hypocritical.

It started quietly the very first week of the Obama Presidency. Longtime Neo-Con hack, former Bush Chief of Staff and Czar of Bush’s White House Iraq Group , Andrew Card, who began his career in the Reagan White House, chastised the new President like a parent scolding an insolent child over his apparently too-informal Oval Office dress.

The implication, of course, was that Obama was either woefully ignorant of the rules of White House etiquette and deference, or worse, was insultingly flouting a sacred, albeit fictitious, tradition. Either way, to the Neo-Cons this was evidence that the man with the ‘deep-seated hatred for the white man’ was unfit to lead America. Right wing media operatives took to the airwaves and lectured America ad-nauseum on how proto-patriot Ronald Reagan never, ever took his jacket off in the Oval Office because he revered the room so much – that is until photos of a jacketless Gipper sitting at his Oval Office desk emerged. Ironically, also discovered were pictures of Andy Card himself defiling the Oval Office with his unpatriotically-casual attire.  Oh, and by the way...George W. also went jacketless in the Oval Office, just fyi.

This spring, the Flying Monkey brigade of the Republican Party began openly wishing for the failure of the American President – as if there was no correlation between the Executive failing and the nation’s woes – and the began promoting wild conspiracy theories in an attempt to de-legitimize President Obama to rationalize behavior that they themselves had previously decried as anti-American.

Unfortunately, the elected leadership of the party lacked the fortitude to stand up to the hysterical ranting, and stood aside impotently as the Furious Few of the fringe became the public face of the Grand Old Party. The inmates were taking over the asylum.

Led by the self-serving Neo-Con-Media’s millionaire celebrity mouth pieces, Republicans have spent the first 8 months of the Obama administration actively renouncing most of their previously held beliefs of inherent respect for the President of the United States of America, the institution of American democracy and the concept of the loyal minority.

They howl that the stimulus was Communist and inherently anti-free market – even though both Bush and McCain supported the plan originally championed by Bushie, Ben Bernanke. Ironically, Bernanke himself was originally appointed by Dubya. to be the Chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. Yes, Ben Bernanke was George W. Bush’s Economic Czar.

Right wing Republican governors held news conferences specifically to denounce the very idea of being forced to receive Federal funds to aid their state’s failing economies. They claimed that Obama was becoming a dictator. Some actually threatened secession - because apparently one of the most patriotic of American ideals these days is advocating the dissolution of the beloved Union itself.

They call the President a racist. They call him a liar. They call him a Nazi AND a Communist rolled into one - the Reece’s Peanut Butter Cup of anti-American evil. They say he will kill grandma, turn junior into a homosexual with the covert help of Playboy magazine, and physically force all women to have abortions whether they are pregnant of not.

They play to any and all post 9-11 fears including presenting as definitive proof of the President’s true allegiances the fact that his middle name is Hussein and last name sounds like Osama. To some it is just too coincidental that his name is so similar to those of the two biggest enemies of the United States. Really.

But the real charge is in the snide insinuation that the Obama is not even American. NOT ONLY is he not American, but he is a Muslim too – GASP! They claim that Obama might not be constitutionally permitted to be President, therefore it is their duty to rise up in rebellion….you know, that whole ‘Watering the Tree of Liberty’ thing.

Self described ‘men of god’ now publicly pray for the death of the president – apparently another newly consecrated patriotic, as well as Christian, principle. Mind you, if these so-called clergymen happened to be Muslim, they’d be branded radical anti-American clerics, but to the right wing they are Christian soldiers in the righteous fight against Statist tyranny.

Neo-Con corporate media uses its might to promote, participate and manipulate ‘grassroots’ rallies and demonstrations, protecting their financial interests and even profiting by reporting rumor and innuendo as fact, spreading disinformation and manufacturing ‘rage’ photo-ops for the sake of ratings.

Random, ‘average’ Americans show up at town-hall meeting armed to the teeth with assault rifles on their shoulders, as if they were in Afghanistan instead of Arizona. Revolutionary rhetoric is regularly invoked amid not-so-veiled threats of violence. Conservative publications call for the violent overthrow of the US Government by its own military. What can more democratic than a coup?

Members of Congress freely circulate, emails and song parodies about the Magic Negro. Photos portray the President as a bone-in-the-lip witchdoctor. Elected officials openly support the ‘birthers’ who cling as strongly to their conspiratorial notions of Obama’s Presidential illegitimacy as they do to their guns and bibles. Equally complicit though, are those Republicans who don’t speak up at all, and stand by in silent agreement with extremists who literally believe in an elaborate plot hatched decades ago to infiltrate America with a tiny 8 pound Indonesian Al Qaeda sleeper agent. Not many had the gumption to push back against these outlandish alligations like Senator Lindsey Graham did when he called out Glenn Beck.

Neo-Conservatives became completely unhinged recently at the prospect of the current President of the United States addressing the nation’s schoolchildren. Some of them screamed that Obama the Socialist was indoctrinating their kids; that letting him near them would be like supporting the collective molestation of the youth of America. They bawled that he was politicizing public schools for personal gain. They freaked out over teachers placing Presidential portraits in classrooms as if it weren’t a tradition that dated back to the birth of the nation. In the end, it turned out that the President told the children to study hard and wash their hands often to prevent the spread of germs. The speech was so Socialist, Mao would have been proud.

 In case the Neo-Cons don’t remember, George W. Bush also spoke to schoolchildren. He visited a politically crucial congressional district in a swing state and spoke to the cameras at the back of the class, patting himself on the shoulder for muscling his ‘no child left behind’ legislation through a Republican Congress. And so no one could forget, conservative donors actually paid to have a monument erected on public property memorializing the signing of the bill into law. Nope. No politics there.

Ronald Reagan spoke to schoolchildren while President, too. But that was also before the rules of Neo-Conservatism were changed. What did Ronnie say to the kids of America? He lectured them about the evils of gun control in the midst of the 80’s crack wars. Yes, kids, guns are good. Cowboy President Ronnie said so. Clearly, back then bringing partisan politics into the schools wasn’t considered child abuse like it is today.

And the most recent example of the Republican Party’s New Rules for American Patriotism was the positively orgasmic reaction to the President’s unsuccessful bid to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago. After weeks of trashing Chicago, portraying the city as Mogadishu on Lake Michigan, inhabited by two-by-four wielding marauders on the South Side and morbidly obese mid-western Daly liberals on the North, when the IOC ultimately selected Rio de Janeiro these ‘patriots’ cheered, gloated, and pronounced that world had finally rejected Obama.

At least we all now know that to the Neo-Con ‘patriots’ the success of their GOP is more important than the success of the nation.

To be fair, there are a few moderate Republicans left who have spoken out against the radicalization of the GOP, however all but the strongest are being browbeaten into submission, forced to offer embarrassing mea culpas at the feet of the Neo-Con hatertainers, or run out of what remains of the ‘Big Tent’ party.

The few as-yet unmuzzled voices of conservatism who continue to speak out, like John Derbyshire, columnist for the conservative National Review, who coined a term that is very accurate: "Happy Meal Conservatism, cheap, childish and familiar," and Reagan biographer, Steven Hayward who asks the question; "Is Conservatism Brain-Dead?"  are being increasingly marginalized in the battle for the GOP.

It is sad, but fitting, that this is what has become of the GOP. America voted down the Neo-Con philosophy in 2008, of that there is no doubt. The hate, rage, and anger they are displaying now is the same as the juvenile theatrics of a jilted teenager lashing out over being dumped. They refuse to examine their own behavior.  If you don’t love me, then you’re a bitch.  Unfortunately that line of argument rarely wins the girl back.

BEWARE THE IDES OF AUGUST....OR MAYBE NOT.

Some juicy tid-dits from a FOX NEWS POLL.

Presumably, Fox  News is the only Fair and Balanced news/entertainment outlet, so the results of their most recent poll are definitely interesting.  I knew there was a reason that Fox didn't feature the poll.

According to the most recent Fox News poll President Obama’s approval numbers are almost EXACTLY where they were before the Summer of Hate’s town halls and tea-bagging parties – to be precise, they’ve RISEN.  The “rapid deterioration” of support for the President that Fox’ers like Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity are alleging ISN’T actually happening contrary to what Fox viewers are being told ad nauseum.

Did I mention that this was a Fox News poll?

More fun;

• The Poll shows that while the number of responders who say they will vote for a Democrat in the 2010 election “to help Barack Obama pass his policies and programs” has remained the same since the Great Tea Bagging at 40%, the number of responders that say that they will vote for a Republican to “to provide a check on Obama's power” has FALLEN by 5% from 40% to 35%.

• Support for “health care reform legislation being considered right now” has actually INCREASED by 4% since August. Opposition has DECREASED by 1%.

• The amount of people who “think the Obama administration is proposing too much of an increase in government” has FALLEN 1% since May of 2009.

Even with the conservative semantics of the polling, the results of these key questions showed that for all of the histrionics of the lunatic fringe the general mood of the electorate – as polled by Fox – hasn’t changed at all.  If anything support for healthcare reform has seemed to pick up since August. Claims of a ‘grassroots’ campaign gaining strength would appear to be hollow.  These would seem to be a huge defeat for the Flying Monkey brigade who dedicated their summer to serving up President Obama his own Waterloo.
Did I mention that this was a Fox News poll?
Despite all of the coverage of outraged citizens at the tea parties and town halls, Beck, Limbaugh, Levin and Hannity haven’t convinced anyone outside of their already devoted based that the apocalypse would be upon us should healthcare reform be realized.  Sure, these ‘entertainers’ have made millions along the way, have best-selling books dominating the sales charts, and have given their network record ratings, but they're not really converting anyone. It would appear that even Foxnews viewers aren’t buying the hype being peddled by the Furious Few.

Blithering Idiot (Their words, not mine)

Funny item for today;

You KNOW it’s bad when the Neo-Con Post is running Page Six articles that site lecture circuit sources calling former Governor Palin a “blithering idiot.”

The Post describes the industry source as “our insider,” and one would think that among the media and publishing holdings of Rupert Murdoch, that his flagship tabloid could find an ‘insider’ with something more positive to offer on the Neo-Con darling than; "What does she have to say? She can't even describe what she reads."

And we’re not talking about the lecture bookers at PETA or the ACLU.  It looks like conservatives don’t even want to book Sarah Barracuda. The Post’s ‘insider’ says; "Palin is so uninteresting to so many groups -- unless they are interested in moose hunting,"

YIKES. This is something you’d expect from the liberal ‘mainstream media’ not something brought to you by the fair and balanced people at News Corp. Then again, I guess the plummeting circulation numbers for The Post has them attempting to appeal to a 'broader' audience.

HYPOCRISY ALERT

Lets talk about indoctrination and politicizing schools for a quick minute.

The Right Wing Nuts of the Neo-Con party are in an absolute tizzy about the President’s speech to students and all the alleged “indoctrination” of our youth. Kids singing songs about the President…….THE HORROR....Next the Socialists will be building Stalin-like monuments to Comrade Obama.

BUT THE SUPREME HYPOCRISY IS that when Shrub was doing the politicizing, it was ok. So ok, in fact that a town 'agreed' to have a STATUE of Bush erected right in front of the entrance to a public school on public property.

In 2002, George Bush was begged by current uber-patriot and anti-Statist Republican John Boehner to travel to the SWING STATE of Ohio (which Bush won by a whopping 3%in 2000) to sign his “No Child Left Behind” bill in front of the children of Hamilton High School and shore up GOP support in the state that has voted for the winner in the past 12 presidential elections.....As Ohio goes, so goes the presidency, they say, right?

NOPE. NO POLITICIZING THERE, HUH?

Then in June of 2004 –‘private donors’ paid to have several statues placed in front of the school MEMORIALIZING George W. Bush’s signing of the ‘No Child Left Behind’ program -  JUST 5 MONTHS before the Presidential Election!!  Did I mention that as Ohio goes, so goes the presidency??

MUST HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE LOCAL VOTERS GREATED BY A BRONZE STATUE OF THE PRESIDENT WHEN THEY ARRIVED TO CAST THEIR VOTES.

NO POLITICS THERE EITHER, RIGHT?

The statue depicts The President speaking to a group of rapt students while Laura beams with pride at her husband. The impression is crystal clear…..BUSH = GOOD.

Remember this kids while Barry O is "indoctrinating" you to wash your hands for Marx.

LIVING IN THE INDOCTRINE-NATION

INDOCTRI-NATION PT 1

How dare he speak about responsibility.(click to read.  Weak-minded beware...brainwashing is highly likely)

If the Socialists try to teach our kids responsibility, who is going take out mortgages they can’t afford? Who is going to run up huge credit card debt? This foolish suggestion will cripple the economy.

“Stay in School”

- Of course he wants kids to stay in school. The longer they stay in school on YOUR dime and “educate” themselves the later they can join society, get a real job and contribute.

“You'll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment.”

- Another capitalism crippling concept from the commie Kenyan comrade in chief. If our children grow up and cure alleged “diseases” like cancer and aids, our pharmaceutical companies will fail, causing the loss of billions of dollars in revenue. No amount of life-saving is worth destroying our economy.

“You'll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination…”

-- OK. Comrade. Newsflash: Homelessness is a choice – need a home?? Get a job. Discrimination?? He should talk about REVERSE-Discrimination such as the White male is subject to. Does Obama realize that Whites only represent 95% of the Senate? And white male representation in the US Senate has plummeted to a shockingly low 78%. This is a crisis, and the so-called Magic Negro is talking to our kids about discrimination?

“I hope you'll all wash your hands a lot”

- Another Statist concept. Government controlled Hygiene. And Hitler only wanted to bath the Jews, right? Besides, washing hands during Flu season only hurts local doctors and nurses. Without routine illnesses, hard working patriotic medical professionals will go out of business.

“I know that sometimes, you get the sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work.”

-- Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck would beg to differ. TV has made these men rich beyond their wildest dreams doing little or no work whatsoever.

“Don't be afraid to ask questions.”

-- Revolutionary speak….code for rise up against Whitey!! Beware this seditious language is treacherous and damaging to our democracy. Who does this guy think he is Trotsky?

DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO

Great work-up by mediamatters.org on the glaring hypocrisy of Republicans (and biased Conservative media outlets ) who are drumming up fear, warning against a possible budget reconciliation move by Congressional Democrats to pass healthcare reform.

Hmmm....Shoe.   Meet Other Foot.

The Flying Monkey media machine is poised to boost rating by stoking anger, and promoting 'revolution' now that this tactic might be used against them.  The cries will grow more and more hysterical and there will be more fearmongering and more hate generated as this scenario grows more likely, because that is the Neo-Con way.

Its just a good thing Cheney and company told them to vote against changing this procedure.

Enjoy!

LET THE FIRES OF LIBERTY BURN BRIGHT.

The tea-bagged masses, self-described ‘real Americans’ call the 650 million dollars in stimulus funds allotted for “wild land fire management on forest service lands” ‘Political pork.’ They say it is damn un-American to steal their hard-earned dollars, and it doesn't even matter that 500 million dollars was budgeted for states to build and improve state and local fire stations.  The stimulus was and is 100% wrong, plain and simple.

Socialism they cry.  The radical right wing flying monkey media machine, reaping a ratings bonanza wholeheartedly endorses the hysterial, and even sponsors a nationwide tour to feature the wildest and wackiest of their ranks.  Taxes are evil.  The federal government is evil. Obama is a white-hating, secret-Muslim illegal alien worse than Hitler and Stalin combined who wants to kill old people, retards, disabled veterans and the unborn.  You know the type.

Apparently, the USA also doesn’t need wild fire management. The USA doesn’t need flood control on the Mississippi. The USA doesn’t need volcano warning in the Pacific Northwest. The USA doesn’t need Hurricane warning systems in the Gulf of Mexico either….None of that shit is in the Constitution is it??  Your on your own, people.

How many Republican voted for the stimulus?

GOP politicians promised to fight tooth and nail against the stimulus. A number of legislators vowed to refuse the money in the name of democracy. Some governors even asserted the right of their states to secede rather than except this fascist takeover of the country. Their supporters applauded. Maybe there was something to it.

But, the Angeles National Forest is now ablaze, and I am left to wonder where the unhinged fringe is on this fine day? I wonder where the Socialist-fighting Anti-Statist Armies are.

They are no doubt racing to the scene of the fires with their flag pins, AK-47 assault rifles and Bibles, prepared to protest the conflagration with their prayers, armor piercing bullets and patriotism.
Why is univeral healthcare coverage such an evil anti-American concept, but universal fire coverage isn't?   After all isn’t preventing fire the same as preventing sickness? Isn’t fighting a fire just like a fighting a disease?

The Neo-conned don’t want to pay for others to have free health insurance, why should they want to pay for others to have free fire insurance?

Sorry, Glendale, it seems that in the name of liberty, you must defend your own homes (and possibly lives too.) It’s a small price to pay, Acton – your town in exchange for freedom from the tyranny that the Socialists in charge of DC wish for.

BREAKING: Sweeping Changes in store for the GOP

The Republican National Committee has announced a major change at the RNC website. Out-of-Date banners, signs, logos and bumper stickers no longer reflecting GOP values will be removed indefinitely.

The move comes after the self-annointed True Leader of the Republican Party received a deluge of complaints on his nationally syndicated, top-rated decidedly non-mainstream, radio show about the apparently anti-GOP nature of some of these items.

Items removed or amended include slogans made famous over the past 8 years, including; America – Love it or Leave It, which has been revised to America – Love it or Threaten Secession. Other objectionable items included; America First, which has been changed to GOP first. and My Country Right or Wrong – which has been changed to My Country Right or Else. Freedom isn’t Free has been amended to Freedom isn’t Free – But I’m not Paying for it.

In a 180 degree about face the GOP leader now insists that it is Patriotic to actually hate America and to refer to the freely elected leader of the nation as YOUR PRESIDENT – NOT MINE. Previously Neo-Conservative mantra was one of total and absolute submission to the will of the ‘Sole Decider.’

Some new catchphrases being considered by the RNC include;

Get Off Of My Lawn You Pesky Kids,
For The Sake of The Party We Hope America Fails,
Jesus was a Statist,
The NEO GOP – Mud People Need Not Apply,
Party First, God Second, Country Third.
It’s Only Racist when YOU Say It.
When YOU Protest, You are a TRAITOR, When WE Protest, We Are PATRIOTS.

GOP insiders say internal debate is going on about whether it would be in the party’s interests to name The Leader as THEIR President of the United States. Constitutional experts John Ashcroft and Alberto Gonzalez are investigating whether or not the Constitution of the United States permits citizens dissatisfied with the nation to select an alternative President without any voting whatsoever to ensure that the voices of the electorate won’t be suppressed.

The concept of supporting the freely elected President of the United States has also been abandoned as a PATRIOTIC DUTY according to The Leader. In the neo-conservative rule book, it is clearly one’s PATRIOTIC DUTY to criticize the President of The United States and to wish him failure. In the past, opposition protesters who dared speak out against the President were deemed to be ‘empowering and emboldening our enemies’ thereby putting our brave servicemen at risk. Today, publicly denouncing the President and branding him a terrorist himself, is in clear support of our troops overseas, and will definitely NOT empower America’s enemies, the RNC website stated.

The RNC has also announced that is has officially ceded their claims to the moral and ethical high ground, arguing that since other people did not support the previous administration, that they are not obliged to do so either, despite their insistence that Republicans would NEVER ‘behave like them.’

St. Reagan and Death Panels for Granny

interesting article from the WSJ.

If St. Ronnie was around today I wonder if the Neo-Conned would think that he supported the Death Panels too??

"Ronald Reagan proposed cutting $1 billion in Medicare spending while president in 1981, when the program cost just $40 billion a year.

That a 2.5% cut for any Neo-Cons that can count.

A 2.5% Cut in the 2008 $325 billion Medicare budget would be $8.12 billion.

In 2007, Dumbya proposed cutting $15.2 billion from the 2008 Medicare budget.  That's an almost 5% Cut.  That plan would have been realized by reducing provider payment updates and raising premiums for higher-income beneficiaries -- Basically punishing the insurance industry and wealthier medicare recipients.

WHERE WERE THE TOWNHALLS?  WHERE WERE THE GUN TOTTING FRINGERS?

Oh yeah.  It was un-American to question the President before the darkie took charge.

But, suddenly the Neo-No-Nothing Party is up in arms about cutting Grannie's lifeline.   Heaven forbid it!

The Hypocrisy is astounding.

St. Ronnie is surely rolling over in his grave.

PARTY OF WHAT?!?

Stop all of this nonsense about the GOP being the “Party of Lincoln.” The Neo Conservative Party - formally known as the Republican Party – is no more the “Party of Lincoln” than PETA is the party of meat-eaters.

Let’s just set aside the fact that Lincoln ran on the National Union ticket with a Democrat VP candidate in 1864, his last campaign, because a large faction of Republicans deemed him incompetent to run for a second term of office on the GOP ticket and deserted him – this after he freed the slaves as the Neo-consters love to remind us.

“Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.”

Abraham Lincoln believed very strongly in the unique democratic process by which we Americans choose our representatives in government. He believed in the system. He believed in the Trias politica – the separation of power between the three branches of our government. He believed in the voters and respected their decisions.

The ‘people’ spoke at the polls in 2006 and 2008 and their voices were resoundingly clear. Not only did they entrust the Executive Branch to a Democrat, they also handed the House of Representatives and the Senate to the Democratic Party – and with that the ability to shape the Judicial Branch. This is a hardly unprecedented, even common occurrence despite the hysterical cries of Fascism from the fringe. In fact, it happened less than 20 years ago.

On Election Day 2002, the Congress joined the White House under the control of the Republican Party, which gave them the power to select Supreme Court Justices who shared their political philosophies. It also happened in 1861 the year after Lincoln was first elected President. During that election the Republican Party took control of both houses in Congress riding Lincoln’s coattails. The following year Lincoln nominated 3 like-minded Republican jurists to the bench.

It’s happened more times than I care to count, and will continue to happen so long as this nation exists.

The radical right would have you believe that President Obama and the Democratic majority in Congress total seized control of the government through some midnight coup d’etat rather than being elected a ‘government by the people.’ They fail to acknowledge that in not one, but two elections, the Neo Conservative message was rejected ‘by the people.’ The unhinged refuse to even acknowledge the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s presidency, instead of accepting defeat, like they urged Democrats to do in 2000. John McCain disingenuously promised to embracie the notion of the ‘loyal minority.' That never materialized. Instead theres been a torrent of hate speech rife with racial undertones.....quite un-Lincolnian.

Lincoln also believed in political debate and the concept of the town hall as a forum for public discourse on the issues. The phony Neo-con funded ‘grassroots’ demonstrations at several recent town-halls are far more an affront to the legacy of Lincoln, than they are any true expressions of free speech and political discourse. And for that matter, in order for something to be free speech – and thus protected, it must be actual speech. Shrieking and whistling is not speech.

Passionate political debate is one of the backbones of this experiment in Democracy of ours. And the participants showing fire and passion at some of the town hall meetings on this tough issue are absolutely in their right to demand answers from their representatives, provided it is answers that they actually want. If they only wish to disrupt the process, to use the stage to sabotage any real debate without advancing an opposing argument, then they are disrespecting the name Lincoln by implying that he is connected with the Neo Conservative ideology. The manufactured mobs at these meetings aim only to subvert the democratic process through shock and sensational theatrics. It stands to reason that Lincoln would want no part of a party that would seek to create chaos of the democratic process that he devote his life to.

More importantly, Lincoln believed that the United States of America was a Federal Republic and should therefore have a strong centralized government, another thing that the Neo Conservative Party vehemently opposes.

How could one claim to be in the ‘Party of Lincoln’ and with the very same breath speak of State secession? Lincoln was a tireless fighter for INCREASING the power of the Federal Government. He denounced secessionist talk and held States Rights ideologues with contempt.

In a speech to Congress in 1861, Lincoln said the following;

"Having never been States, either in substance, or in name, outside of the Union, whence this magical omnipotence of 'State rights,' asserting a claim of power to lawfully destroy the Union itself?.....The Union, and not themselves separately, procured their independence, and their liberty. By conquest, or purchase, the Union gave each of them, whatever of independence, and liberty, it has. The Union is older than any of the States; and, in fact, it created them as States….Much is said about the "sovereignty" of the States, but the word even is not in the national Constitution, nor, as is believed, in any of the State constitutions.”

Can you imagine the thrashing Lincoln would have given Rick Perry (yes, even Texas) and the other Neo-cons of the State Sovereignty movement? Here’s a taste;

“A part of the present national debt was contracted to pay the old debts of Texas. Is it just that she shall leave and pay no part of this herself? Again, if one State may secede, so may another; and when all shall have seceded none is left to pay the debts. Is this quite just to creditors? Did we notify them of this sage view of ours when we borrowed their money? If we now recognize this doctrine by allowing the seceders to go in peace, it is difficult to see what we can do if others choose to go, or to extort terms upon which they will promise to remain.”

“This relative matter of national power and State rights, as a principle, is no other than the principle of generality and locality. Whatever concerns the whole should be confined to the whole -- to the General Government; while whatever concerns only the State should be left exclusively to the State. This is all there is of original principle about it. Whether the national Constitution, in defining boundaries between the two, has applied the principle with exact accuracy is not to be questioned. We are all bound by that defining, without question.”

Not only did Lincoln believe in greater Federal control, he signed the bill implementing the first Federal Income Tax – a bill passed by the Republican Congress to help ease the economic crisis caused by the impending Civil War, by the way.

Lincoln believed in, and the Republican Congress passed the Internal Revenue Act in 1861, "to provide Internal Revenue to support the Government and to pay Interest on the Public Debt," Today’s ‘Party of Lincoln’ has attempted to cast the very concept of Federal taxation for any purposes other than National Defense, as Socialist money-grab schemes designed to punish the wealthy and hardworking, and reward the lazy and shiftless.

Among other taxes and tariffs, the Internal Revenue Act mandated licensing for;

• Bankers,
• Auctioneers,
• Wholesale and retail dealers,
• Pawnbrokers,
• Distillers,
• Brewers,
• Brokers,
• Tobacconists,
• Jugglers ("Every person who performs by sleight of hand shall be regarded as a juggler under this act.")
• Confectioners,
• Horse dealers,
• Livery stable keepers,
• Cattle brokers,
• Tallow-chandlers,
• Soap makers,
• Coal- oil distillers,
• Peddlers,
• Apothecaries,
• Photographers,
• Lawyers,
• And physicians.

That’s not all;

• Hotels, inns, and taverns - charged license fees of from $5 to $200 according to income.
• Eating houses paid $10 per year for a license,
• Theaters up to $100,
• Circuses $50.
• Bowling alleys and billiard rooms paid according to the number of alleys or tables belonging to or used in the building to be licensed.
• Stamp duties were imposed on legal and business documents and on medicines, playing cards, and cosmetics.

A tax on playing cards? Heaven forbid. If there had been talk radio in 1861, it would have surely been afire with accusations of Lincoln’s and his Republican cohorts’ demagoguery.

Not enough? How about some ‘luxury’ taxes;

• Carriages of any size and shape not used exclusively in farming or in transporting merchandise were taxed from $1 to $6 depending on their value.
• Gold watches were taxed either $1 or $2 depending on their value,
• Pianofortes or other parlor musical instruments were taxed at either $2 or $4.
• Billiard tables not licensed carried an annual tax of $10.
• Gold and silver plate were taxed by the Troy ounce at 50 cents and 5 cents respectively.
• Yachts and pleasure and racing boats were taxed based on tonnage, between $5 for 10 tons or less and $100 for more than 110 tons.

Imagine the outrage if certain nationally-syndicated media superstars of today had taxes levied on their private jets by a Democratic President and Congress? STATISM I Say!

Penalize the rich? Penalize small businesses?? Not Republican principles? Maybe not.

In 1864 – three years after the enacting the revenue act, the Federal Income Tax rate was set to 5% for anyone making up to $5000 ($102,708 in 2007 dollars) and DOUBLE that, 10% for anyone making over $10,000 ($205,416, in 2007.)

“I am in favor of a national bank ... in favor of the internal improvements system and a high protective tariff."

Lincoln’s intentions for the revenue generated by the Federal Income Tax were not simply limited to offset the War effort. They were with the aim of consolidating power and strengthening the central government of the US,

Lincoln championed National Banks and a Federal currency designed to replace individual States’ currencies. He promoted massive federal spending on public works to improve the national infrastructure, and he supported and signed the Morrill Tariff, DOUBLING the tax on imports into America. Not exactly the free trade ideology of today’s GOP.

The list of accomplishments of Lincoln and his Republican party is long, but among them it must be noted that there are many concepts considered heretical to Neo Conservatism;

• The Homestead Act? Low-cost, federally subsidized land sales.
• The Pacific Railways Act? – Taxpayer funding for the expensive ambitious 10 year Intercontinental Railroad plan. (Previously rails were constructed and maintained by the private sector.)
• The Department of Agriculture? – Created under Lincoln to add a layer of government oversight, regulation, and control to the farming industry.

Why would someone who thinks the government shouldn’t be involved in providing housing, who thinks the government shouldn’t tell businesses how to operate, and who is against government regulation claim to be part of the ‘Party of Lincoln’ when Lincoln and his Republicans were responsible for so many concepts that are abhorrent to today’s GOP’s ‘core principles’?

To be clear, some Republicans opposed their party on the issue of income taxes during Lincoln’s presidency, and in 1895 with a Republican majority in Congress and influence on the Supreme Court, the Internal Revenue act was repealed. The concept of the Federal Income Tax, however, was eventually re-introduced and ratified as the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, again by a Republican controlled Congress, in 1913.

Lincoln began his career as a Whig and ended as the Presidential nominee of the National Union Party, so it’s curious that the modern far right version of the GOP has anointed itself as the ‘Party of Lincoln.’ More accurately the party formally known as the Republican Party should be identified with its more direct bigoted, xenophobic, philosophical antecedent – The Know Nothing Movement.

So, enough with the ‘Party of Lincoln’ song and dance, please.
